Selling on Amazon—FAQs
How can ecommerce merchants fulfill Amazon orders?
There are two main ways Amazon sellers can fulfill orders: through Amazon’s warehouses and fulfillment services, or by using your own warehouse. Amazon’s fulfillment services include Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA), Amazon Direct Fulfillment, and Multi-Channel Fulfillment (MCF). Amazon also offers options to fulfill orders using your own warehouse, including Seller Fulfilled Prime (SFP), Fulfillment by Merchant (FBM), and Amazon Shipping via Amazon Seller Central.
What is Seller Fulfilled Prime (Amazon SFP)?
Amazon SFP allows Amazon sellers to ship domestic orders directly to Prime customers from their own warehouses instead of using Amazon’s fulfillment services. When you participate in Seller Fulfilled Prime, you can use Prime branding on your offers, and you must commit to fulfill and deliver orders within 1-2 days at no additional cost for Prime customers. You can ship with any carrier you choose. Source
ShipRush helps you control costs and meet Amazon SFP delivery requirements. We find the cheapest 1–2-day shipping service for each order using shipping automation rules that conduct rate shopping across multiple carriers’ discounted shipping rates.
What are the Amazon Seller Fulfilled Prime requirements?
To participate in Amazon SFP, the first step is to pre-qualify for the Seller Fulfilled Prime trial. To pre-qualify you need a default shipping address based in the US, an Amazon Professional selling account, and self-fulfill at least 100 packages with a cancellation rate less than 2.5%, valid tracking rate greater than 95%, and late shipment rate less than 4% in the last 90 days.
After you pre-qualify, you need to register for the Seller Fulfilled Prime Trial. In this 30-day trial, you must ship 100 or more packages from Prime trial orders while maintaining an on-time delivery rate of at least 93.5%, a valid tracking rate of at least 99%, and a seller-initiated cancellation rate of less than 0.5%. You must also meet minimums for one-day and two-day delivery speeds (Prime customer detail page views).
Once you pass the trial, you become an enrolled seller. Enrolled Amazon Prime sellers must consistently meet the following criteria to maintain their status:
- Provide free 1-day and 2-day delivery for Prime customers
- Give all customers free nationwide standard shipping
- Meet minimum 1-day and 2-day delivery speeds according to Prime customer detail page views
- Achieve an on-time delivery rate of at least 93.5%
- Show a valid tracking rate of at least 99%
- Keep a seller-initiated cancellation rate of less than 0.5%
- Ship and deliver Prime orders on weekends (Saturday, Sunday, or both)
- Offer free returns on items weighing less than fifty pounds
- Allow Amazon to manage all post-order customer service inquiries
As you continue to meet the Seller Fulfilled Prime enrolled seller requirements, you may use Prime branded offers on orders you fulfill yourself. Source Failure to meet the requirements will result in being de-listed as a Prime seller, and you will no longer be allowed to use the Prime branding. However, you may continue to sell products on Amazon.
How does ShipRush support Amazon SFP and valid tracking rate requirements?
First, ShipRush helps you save money on shipping labels, protect profit margins, and lower the cost associated with Amazon’s Seller Fulfilled Prime shipping requirements. We offer discounted shipping rates and a powerful multi-carrier rate shopping tool to help you find the cheapest rate available to meet Amazon’s 1–2-day shipping requirements.
Then, as orders are shipped in ShipRush, we automatically push data back into your Seller Central account to provide updated order status and tracking info for both the customer and Amazon.
What is Amazon FBM (Fulfilled by Merchant)?
Amazon Fulfilled by Merchant is a suite of Amazon solutions to help you fulfill orders from your warehouse. It includes tools for inventory management, shipping, and returns management, and you can use it with Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) to tailor your business strategy. Source
ShipRush provides similar solutions for Amazon sellers, such as:
- Integrations for multiple sales channels to manage all orders in one place
- Support for Seller Fulfilled Prime (SFP), Amazon Shipping, and Amazon Buy Shipping
- Fulfill specialty orders such as large, heavy items or LTL shipments
In addition, ShipRush offers powerful business rules to automate shipping processes and increase efficiency in the warehouse. We also fully integrate with Descartes warehouse management systems to achieve up to 4x faster fulfillment.
What is Amazon Buy Shipping?
With Amazon Buy Shipping, you get access to great rates with UPS, Amazon Shipping (their delivery fleet), FedEx, USPS, and other carriers. You also get “account health protection,” where Amazon covers your cost if an order arrives late. For example, when the customer files a claim to get their money back because the order arrived late, Amazon covers that cost. Source
ShipRush supports Amazon Buy Shipping, and the services and rates appear alongside other carriers’ services in our rate shopping tool. You can print Amazon Buy Shipping labels with ShipRush.
Do I have to use Amazon Buy Shipping or Amazon Shipping to fulfill Amazon Prime orders?
Yes, sellers must use Amazon Buy Shipping services to ship Prime orders with ShipRush. Amazon Buy Shipping includes Amazon Shipping, UPS, FedEx, USPS, and other major carriers.
What is Amazon Shipping carrier service?
Amazon Shipping allows both Amazon sellers and non-Amazon sellers to use their shipping fleet as a carrier service to deliver packages, just like USPS, UPS, or FedEx. Amazon Shipping service is only available through a few select multi-carrier shipping software partners, and ShipRush is one of them.
You can add Amazon Shipping as a carrier in ShipRush and view Amazon Shipping services alongside other carrier services in our rate shopping tool. You can print Amazon Shipping labels for both Amazon orders and non-Amazon orders (other sales channels) all in one place with ShipRush.
How to use my own carrier accounts to ship Amazon orders?
ShipRush allows you to load multiple carrier accounts to ship your Amazon orders, including accounts with your own negotiated carrier rates. All carriers and services connected to your ShipRush account will appear in the options to ship Amazon orders with ShipRush.
For Prime shipments, you can load your own carrier rates into Amazon Buy Shipping and access them within ShipRush through the Amazon Buy Shipping API.
